The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) approved on March 18 the report CCMI 256 – Roadmap for the Transformation of the EU Defence Industry, which sets out the priorities to strengthen European industrial and technological autonomy.
The Roadmap highlights the need to reinforce strategic autonomy, technological sovereignty, and Europe’s industrial capacity through innovation, adequate funding, and cooperation among Member States, businesses, and civil society. It also underlines the importance of integrating this strategy with existing programmes, supporting SMEs and workers, maintaining principles of transparency, and ensuring that benefits are distributed in a balanced way, contributing both to security and to the Union’s economic and social development.
The report incorporates contributions from AEROS, through Confemetal, and highlights the strategic role of SMEs and sectors such as metal and automotive in the European defence ecosystem.
