European Commission launches the “Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030” to strengthen Europe’s defence autonomy and preparedness

The European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy have unveiled the Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030, setting concrete objectives and milestones to ensure Europe’s full defence readiness by 2030. The plan calls for closing existing capability gaps, boosting joint defence investment, and reinforcing the European Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB).

The roadmap defines four pan-European flagship initiatives, the European Drone Defence Initiative, Eastern Flank Watch, European Air Shield, and European Space Shield; aimed at improving Europe’s air, space and cyber defence resilience. It also foresees Ukraine’s integration into the European defence ecosystem and the establishment of a single market for defence equipment and military mobility.
