ERNI, the Swiss software engineering multinational, has opened the Swiss Tech Center at its offices in Barcelona’s Plaça de Catalunya. The new centre is designed as a hub connecting Catalonia and Switzerland, fostering business, institutional and technological collaboration between the two regions while providing a testing environment for artificial intelligence, robotics, software and cybersecurity solutions for industry. The opening strengthens the company’s commitment to the city and coincides with its forecast of reaching €26 million in revenue in Spain this year, up from €21 million in the previous financial year.
The opening ceremony was attended by Miquel Sàmper, the Catalan Minister for Business and Labour; Othmar Christian Hardegger, the Swiss Consul General in Barcelona; Pavo Kohler, CEO of the ERNI Group; and Albert Alsina, Managing Director of ERNI in Spain. Representatives from the business and innovation ecosystem also attended, including representatives of AeroS, an organisation of which ERNI is a member.
The Swiss Tech Center features a showroom of real projects developed using ERNI technology. These include molecular diagnostic devices capable of performing PCR tests in just a few minutes and autonomous robots used in the development of new medicines, two examples of how software engineering translates into practical solutions for healthcare, robotics and industry.
Since arriving in Barcelona in 2011, the company has expanded its presence to 350 professionals in Spain, 270 of whom work in Barcelona and Sant Cugat. Barcelona has become the group’s largest centre, ahead of Zurich, and hosts its Spanish headquarters, which also coordinates the Madrid and Valencia offices.
