Barcelona Submits Bid to Host the World’s Leading Space Congress in 2029

The Government of Spain, through the Spanish Space Agency (AEE), and the Government of Catalonia, in collaboration with the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), have officially presented the “Barcelona IAC 2029” bid for the Catalan capital to host the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world’s leading international space conference.
 

Under the theme “Water Resilience from Space,” the proposal aims to position Barcelona as a global leader in space technologies, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, promoting innovative solutions to address climate change and efficient water management.
 

The bid is supported by public institutions, scientific organizations, and key players across the space and technology ecosystem. At AeroS, we support Barcelona’s candidacy and welcome an initiative that would strengthen the city’s international position while boosting the growth of Spain’s space and technology sectors.
 

The host city for IAC 2029 will be selected in October 2026 during the international congress taking place in Antalya, Türkiye. Barcelona will compete against the bids from Houston, Geneva, and Muscat.
