The
Government of the Balearic Islands has taken a major step in its
digital transformation strategy with the launch of the Cybersecurity Operations Centre (SOC), operated by
SIRT from its new office in Palma. During the opening event,
Vice President and Minister of Economy, Finance and Innovation Antoni Costa stated that the Government’s goal is to
position the Balearic Islands as “a digitally advanced and secure territory”, where innovation, resilience and trust underpin public management.
Costa emphasised that
cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue but a
strategic component for ensuring service continuity and citizen confidence. To that end, the regional administration is implementing a €10 million cybersecurity plan to enhance prevention, detection and response capabilities. The new SOC represents an innovative public-private partnership, equipping the administration with state-of-the-art tools to face increasingly complex cyber threats.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise the regional administration through digitalisation, automation and the creation of IB Digital, a new agency that will integrate all technological resources and drive innovation across departments. “We want companies to see the administration as an ally, not just a client,” Costa said, highlighting that the islands’ digital future depends on collaboration, innovation and local talent.
