On October 10, the Catalan government officially presented the Catalunya Espai 2030 strategy, an initiative that aims to position Catalonia as a leading player in the European space sector. The event, held at the Montsec Astronomical Park (Àger), brought together institutional representatives, research centers, and leading aerospace companies, such as Airbus, Open Cosmos, Pangea Aerospace, Indra, and AeroS, among others.
This new strategy marks a turning point for the Catalan space industry and opens up new opportunities for participation in projects with a European vision and institutional support. Its objective is to strengthen the region's capabilities in research, innovation, and technology. The plan is structured around five strategic missions: positioning Catalonia as a leading hub in the space economy; strengthening participation in European initiatives that foster technological sovereignty; promoting talent and entrepreneurship; establishing efficient and collaborative governance; and projecting the "Catalonia Space" brand internationally.
To make this possible, the government has created an initial public fund of €40 million, which will serve as an initial boost to attract private investment and mobilize up to €150 million in the coming years. Among the planned actions are eight satellite missions before 2030, focused on Earth observation to respond to droughts, floods, and emergencies, and on communications to strengthen connectivity.
